Control Room Functions – radio / support / logistics

The very core of Command and Control at any event is the control room. A well designed, well trained, well staffed control room is a must for every event no matter how big or small. Police Liaison

With over 150 years of relevant policing experience across our network we are ideally positioned to support event organisers in their negotiations with the police in a number of areas including Safety Advisory Groups, licensing and special police services (paying for police officers at events).

We like to ensure that the public get the most efficient, best value for money, safest possible police support at the events they attend.

Furthermore, we are uniquely positioned to ensure the police and the event organiser are working in harmony as we designed the Integrated Threat Management process that the police use for categorising events in the UK. Our team contributed to the national guidance for policing events used by the College of Policing. We also contributed to the Policing at Events chapter in The Purple Guide.

We are industry members of the national festival intelligence team where we actively contribute to and benefit from the UK intelligence picture relating to festivals. We can write a comprehensive SOI between the event organiser and the police so that a smooth transfer of command can take place in the event of a major incident. Exercises – Pre and During Event

We understand the value of a well written plan, people trained to use the plan and having the plan reality tested. That’s why we offer an exercising service where our exercise co-ordinators and facilitators can host a multi agency training day to get all those involved together in the same room. This isn’t just for plans we’ve written, we provide this service to any client looking to test any aspect of their event or business. We will research reasonably foreseeable scenarios and apply them in innovative ways to get the best out of the people positioned to mitigate them. After which we provide detailed, documented feedback to enhance organisational learning and evolve plans where necessary.

During the event we also have access to a number of professional role-actors who can undertake “Operation Penetrate” security style checks to see how far through an event or building they can get before being challenged by security. Secondly we also offer “Operation Shield” style checks where our team will approach a member of staff and report an incident to test real-time responses. Operation Shield helps event organisers to pro-actively assess the security capability of their events, the third parties they employ and any potential licensing breaches so they can be addressed in advance of any potential prosecution.

Briefings

At CREST we believe passionately in the principles of Integrated Event Management (™) and will always recommend that a joint services briefing takes place prior to any event opening its gates. Briefings are scalable depending on the clients needs but generally include invites to every tactical manager and operational member of staff from every agency on-site so they are briefed as one, know who they are working with and where they fit into the plan and chain of command so ultimately they act as one. This increases public safety and is the only real way to embed the learning from previous tragedies such as the Boston marathon bombing.

As a stand alone product in this area we can design and supply Immediate Action Drill cards which are generally lanyard in style and include such things as BOMB response or ACID ATTACK and LOST person response on one side and a gridded map of the site on the other for risk mitigation. These are changeable for clients needs.

De-briefs

Our de-briefs come in three parts. Firstly we can facilitate ‘hot de-briefs’ on a time scale of the clients choosing. Sometimes this is at shift change over, sometimes its at the end of the day or sometimes its at the end of the event. We recommend having them as frequently as possible so any issues that arise can be tackled early and prevented from escalating. Facilitation can range from personal hosting or more simply just the creation of a de-brief form and a de-brief process.

Secondly we offer the traditional post event de-brief but with substantially more reach and depth than most of our competitors. Not only do we invite key personnel to come together and feed back on behalf of their team or area of responsibility but we include all partners (to provide greater reach) and also all concession or stall holders and anyone who accesses the event is given a quick de-brief form to complete and hand back when exiting the site (to provide greater depth). This is facilitated, collated and disseminated in the usual manner. We do offer a unique record of de-brief service and so if contracted to work on the same or similar events next time the record can be called upon to inform the planning and briefing processes thus bringing the learning cycle full circle and back into the event to embed continual improvement and enhance public safety.

Third and lastly if any Operation Penetrate or Operation Shield products have been purchased the results of these are also included.
